As everybody knows, burning fossil fuels isn’t great for the environment. As well as the pollution it causes, it may also be contributing to harmful climate change. Africa is particularly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions, so anything we can do to reduce that threat to its people and to all living things must be explored as a matter of urgency.
“The immediate impact of the consumption of fossil fuels on the environment and ecosystem takes years for it to recover, whereas utilizing technology to generate solutions to maintain sustainability is vital,” says Ryan Bailey, operations director of CR Projects.
“The immediate impact of the consumption of fossil fuels on the environment and ecosystem takes years for it to recover, whereas utilizing technology to generate solutions to maintain sustainability is vital. Renewable energy conserves a nation’s natural resources and provides reliable power supplies, clean and inexhaustible sources of pure energy. The simple truth is, the future of humanity and the globe depend on it.”
So the advent of solar power is such good news. Nambiti gets more than its fair share of sunshine and the greenhouse gas emissions from solar power are precisely zero. Which is why we’re currently building a solar panel farm at The Homestead to power everything we do. Banks of photovoltaic panels will be used to power the entire lodge and even charge our electric vehicles during the day. In the evenings, we’ll use the surplus energy we’ve accumulated and when the sun rises, we’ll start this renewable cycle all over again.
With our use of solar energy, we’re doing our bit to reduce the world’s dependence on fossil fuels. And when you stay here, you too are helping to create a cleaner, greener future, “We understand the effects fossil fuels and other pollutants have on the environment so we’re trying to make a difference,” says Brent Jansen Van Rensburg, The Homestead’s head ranger. “With every decision we make, we’re trying to lower our carbon footprint in order to conserve the natural environment around us.”
Solar power is just one example of the multitude of sustainable practices we’ve incorporated at The Homestead. There’ll be more to come.
